Formed in 1973, the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) represents 8 local councils in Western Sydney. WSROC provides a strong voice for the residents of Western Sydney to improve their quality of life. Representing the councils of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Parramatta and Penrith, WSROC manages a number of regional initiatives, including the regional waste project. The eight councils, together with The Hills Shire Council (non-WSROC member), work together with WSROC staff to deliver research and strategic projects in waste avoidance and diversion, resource recovery, and to address litter and illegal dumping.
